As someone who has an EpiPen®, you've already taken an essential step toward preparing yourself for life-threatening allergic reactions. In situations when every second counts, you need a plan. Let's talk about what you can do to prepare yourself or your child for life-threatening allergic reactions.
Important facts to keep in mind:
- Sometimes a second EpiPen® injection is necessary.
- Up to 35% of people who have a severe reaction may require additional EpiPen® injections to control their reaction until they can get to a hospital1
- In some cases a second severe reaction can occur within hours of the first. This is known as a biphasic reaction and requires a second dose of epinephrine2
- Severe allergic reactions can happen anytime, anywhere.
- Most life-threatening allergic reactions occur away from home3
- Most anaphylactic fatalities occur when there is no EpiPen® available4
- Home, work, school, gym - make sure you have an EpiPen®
- Parents, build a support team around your child. And prepare them well.
- Talk to the adults who interact with your child every day (teachers, camp counselors, day care, babysitters, etc.)
